Problems with your bite could lead to speaking, eating, or chewing issues. Our two most common bite correctors are Herbst® and Carriere® appliances.
A Proper Bite is Important
The bite is essential to the way the mouth looks and functions. If you or your child are experiencing an overbite, underbite, or even a narrow jaw with crowded teeth, your orthodontist can correct it with a functional appliance.
Traditionally, patients who are experiencing bite problems have to wear headgear or other cumbersome and uncomfortable appliances to correct the alignment of the jaw. With the introduction of intraoral appliances, there are more comfortable and less visible solutions available.
Two appliances that we offer at our practice include
Carriere® Motion™ Appliance. The Carriere Motion Appliance is used to correct several types of bite issues. The Carriere Appliance is bonded to a molar and canine tooth in the upper arch, with an elastic to connect to a molar on the lower arch. This applies steady and gentle pressure to the teeth and jaws. The appliance is utilized before treatment with braces and is seen as a substitute for headgear.
Herbst® Appliance The Herbst appliance works by placing the device on the molars with a connecting piece to the opposite arch. The device works to guide the bite into its proper position. The appliance is non-removable and can be adjusted by your orthodontist.
