Got Mouthguard?

Now that the Spring sports season is in full swing, we wanted to share a little info…and a little humor about mouthguards. And, we also want to give you a heads-up that we offer custom mouthguards. We think this topic is so important we want everyone who plays a team sport to know about it.

70 percent of parents report that their biggest fear is that their child will get hurt while playing organized sports, yet 67 percent admit that their child does NOT wear a mouth guard during organized sports including football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse and, of course, hockey. This becomes even more important if the athlete has braces. Serious trauma can occur to the lips and gums if they are hit in the mouth with a ball or stick without the proper protection.

If an accident occurs, causing facial injury, you should go to the emergency room. If there’s any dental damage done, contact your child’s dentist so that arrangements can be made to correct the problem. While damage to braces can lengthen treatment time, it also can affect the results, so let us know right away if your child is hit or injured on the field or on the ice.

Now, for the humor, check out this video from the American Association of Orthodontists.
